Apostille

The Apostille is an official government issued certificate added to documents so they will be recognised when presented in another country.

Once a document has had an Apostille Certificate attached to it confirming the authenticity of signatures and seals it can be presented to any country which recognises the Apostille.
Many countries across the world now issue and request the apostille certificate be applied to documents from another country.

These countries have all signed a treaty called the Hague Convention, this has simplified the legalisation of documents for use in member countries. For a full list of member countries please visit https://www.hcch.net/en/states/hcch-members.

Embassy Attestation
Documents which are being presented in a country which is not party to the Hague Convention will often request further legalisation or attestation. This usually involves having an apostille attached to the document and then carrying out further legalisation through the embassy of that country.
Certificate of Authentication

If you are travelling to countries that does not form part of the Hague Convention, a Certificate of Authentication by the High Court will often be required. The notarisation by a Notary Public ensures that a document is authentic, that the signatures on that document are authentic, that the signer was not forced to sign the document, and that the document’s term are in full force and effect.
